GREELEY, Colo. — A close game it was not. Stripes only built on its momentum from the first scrimmage to post a 48-5 win over Stars.
Proving relentless on defense once again, more kicking opportunities resulted in an even more lop-sided victory for Stripes in the second contest of the three match series.
Samantha Pankey and Kaelene Lundstrum accounted for two tries a piece on the day, which was only boosted by the kicking efforts of Meya Bizer. Bizer slotted three penalties, while converting on two tries.
Katie O’Malley, Christina Zier, and Caroline White crossed the line for scores, respectively, in Stripes favor.
Stars had no answer to the staunch defense of Stripes. That is until the waning moments of the contest. Coming on as a late-game sub, Mel Denham capitalized on her freshness to score the lone try for Stars.
The final scrimmage of the Top 60 camp will take place on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. (MT).
The rosters will be lighter for both sides in the last scrimmage as four players depart for the U20 camp. Bizer, Cassidy Meyers, Anne Peterson, and Hope Rogers will be absent from the final Stars and Stripes contest as they travel to Chula Vista, Calif.
Saturday’s scrimmage will be the final event of the Top 60 Camp.

GREELEY, Colo. — It’s time for round two between Stars and Stripes. Women’s Eagles head coach, Pete Steinberg, has named the lineups that will be competing against each other in the second scrimmage at the Top 60 Camp.
Numerous changes have been made to the lineups, in comparison to those named for the opening scrimmage. With several practices under the player’s belts, the match is expected to be much closer than the 34-3 outcome in favor of Stripes.
“There are so many variables that have changed since the first scrimmage, so it will be interesting to see how the game turns out,” said Steinberg.
The first match of the Top 60 camp series took place a day after players arrived at the University of Northern Colorado.
Since the opening days of camp, players have been through six practices and a scrimmage. Meetings and classroom sessions have also highlighted the week’s events.
Kickoff for the Wednesday scrimmage is set for 2 p.m. (MT).
In the first scrimmage, Stripes capitalized on six opportunities, converting on two of the tries, to claim the match, 34-3. Meya Bizer scored two tries, while connecting on the two post-try attempts.
Ashley Kmiecik, Sharon Blaney, Shaina Turley, and Ashley Kingzett accounted for a try each in Sunday’s match.
The final scrimmage of the Top 60 camp will take place Saturday (May 25) at 2 p.m. (MT).

GREELEY, Colo. — Stripes opened the Top 60 camp and scrimmages in dominant fashion, defeating Stars, 34-3. Just a day after arriving at the University of Northern Colorado, the more experienced Stripes squad utilized its abilities in wearing down the Stars to claim the first match of the series.
Stripes fullback, Meya Bizer, made her name known, having accounting for fourteen of her team’s points on the day.
In total, six tries would be run across for Stripes, whom dominated the contest from the opening whistle. Winger Ashley Kmiecik initiated the scoring with a try, just minutes into the match.
Despite a quick response from Stars inside center, Aly Gleason, the penalty goal was the only score Stripes conceded all match.
Defense was the name of the game in the first half. After allowing quick scores, both teams became stringent on the defensive side of the ball, bending at points, but standing firm when it was needed.
Despite the work rate of Stars, Stripes was able to capitalize late in the half, with two tries. Bizer dotted down with minutes remaining, while lock Sharon Blaney scored on the final play of the half for a 17-3 Stripes lead at the break.
The momentum taken into halftime by Stripes proved to be too much for the Stars to overcome in the ensuing half. Before the game was out, an additional three tries would be posted on the scoreboard in favor of Stripes.
Shaina Turley scored first and was followed by fellow back-row player Ashley Kingzett, before Bizer notched her second try of the day.
Bizer was able to convert on both of her scores to account for the 34-3 final score.
The next scrimmage is scheduled for Wednesday (May 22) at 2 p.m.

BOULDER, Colo. — The Top 60 Camp roster has been confirmed. With only a day until the athletes arrive, in Greeley, Colo., a final list of athletes attending has been deciphered.
Those selected will take to the athletic fields at the University of Northern Colorado in hopes of being selected for a Women’s Eagles summer test match. The player-pool drawn from the Top 60 Camp will also be used in moving forward for the 2014 World Cup.
Those athletes will be in pursuit of the ‘final in ‘14’ goal.
“A lot of the athletes that you will see this weekend will most likely be the ones that we will be utilizing for the World Cup,” said head coach, Pete Steinberg.
Once at the Top 60 camp, players will be divided into teams in order to compete in a three scrimmage series. Pitting Stars against Stripes, players will showcase their skills in a team setting for the intra-squad matches.
Scrimmages will take place May 19, 22, and 25, respectively.
Teams will remain predominantly the same throughout the week, however, due to player availability, some players may be traded throughout the week.
Work commitments will hinder some of the more-veteran players, while three of the athletes will be departing early for different reasons. Meya Bizer, Anne Petterson, and Hope Rogers will be leaving ahead of schedule in order to compete at the U20 camp in Chula Vista, Calif.
Practice times are slated for 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. each of the days. Classroom and weight training sessions will be intermittently placed throughout the week as well.

BOULDER, Colo. — With the France tests drawing ever closer, the team that will represent the United States must first be selected. The Top 60 camp, May 18-26, provides an opportunity for the players to win their spots for those matches.
The University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley, CO plays host for the second consecutive year to the events that determines the Women’s Eagles squad.
The focus of the camp lies with testing players’ abilities to perform in an elite-level, competitive setting. As a result, players will be divided into teams for a three match scrimmage series.
“The Eagle Training Centers are focused on individual skill development,” said head coach, Pete Steinberg. “The Top 60 camp is really about seeing if players can perform the skills we are looking for in a test-match-like environment, not just once, but three times throughout the week.”
Steinberg continued; “We are looking for players who not only can play high level rugby, but can be great teammates. The environment will be player led and staff supported so we want to see how the players want to drive the development of their team.”
Scrimmages are scheduled for Sunday, Wednesday, and Saturday. All practices and scrimmages will take place at the athletic fields of the University of Northern Colorado at 2 p.m.
Two-a-day practices will unify the attending players for times outside of the scrimmages, in order to implement the Women’s Eagles approach to be played in the summer test matches.
Practice times will take place at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Classroom and weight training sessions will fill the other available times while in Greeley.
Players attending the Top 60 camp were selected through ETC and exterior performances. Athletes were also identified in both the Collegiate All-American and Junior All-American programs, respectively.
Fans looking to attend the matches will be able to do so free-of-charge. University of Northern Colorado parking rates and guidelines will apply to all attending fans parking on the campus.
“These are going to be the highest level of domestic competition ever on US soil and it would be great to have a good crowd turn out on the match days,” said Steinberg. “I know the players would love to have a ton of screaming fans there.”
The staff also hopes that a bigger fan-base turnout will create an anticipated summer-like crowd for the Women’s Eagles.
“It would make it more realistic for what they will see in moving forward” said Steinberg, referring to the France matches and Nations Cup, both taking place this summer.
The Women’s Eagles will host the French internationals for a three match series June 7, 11, and 14, respectively .
The first two test matches will take place June 7 and 11 at Oxnard College (Calif.). Both contests will kick off at 5 p.m.
The final match, on the June 14, will be hosted at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. With a 5 p.m. kickoff, the match will precede the Men’s Eagles test against Tonga, that evening at 8 p.m. (PT).
Of note, three players attending the Top 60 camp, Meya Bizer, Anne Peterson and Hope Rogers, are scheduled to leave the camp early in order to participate with the Junior All-Americans at the Olympic Training Center, in Chula Vista, Calif.
